🧪 Your Curriculum for Mastering Data & AI (A Workflow Wednesday reflection)

In every CAS class and client session, one question keeps popping up:
"What should I really know to work well with AI?"
Hint: it’s more than just prompting ChatGPT.

Successful AI comes from a solid, connected skillset. Think of it like a Skill Tree—with unlockable paths: tech, business, governance, communication. Let’s walk through the key elements:

💡Start with AI-driven product and business thinking. What do I need to add to or improve on my product? Without it, your AI won't create value. Use-case design and monetization strategies are key branches on the tree.

Then: foundations of AI & GenAI. If you don’t understand how models work (or why they fail) you’re just guessing. You might get lucky 😉

Data engineering and streaming feed your models with fresh, connected, flowing data. Good data design, real-time pipelines, and data governance and stewardship provide that data - they are key success factors.

Cloud architecture and automation help you scale. Multi-cloud setups, infrastructure-as-code, and cost control provide agility and resilience.

Don’t forget MLOps and AI security. Monitoring, robustness testing, red-teaming, and continuous-learning feedback loops help you manage drift, decay, and harmful responses.

Responsible AI and compliance. Of course, there is regulation. The actual reason is trust, your most valuable asset. And in high-stakes areas, fraud, risk, and resilience analytics help detect anomalies and forecast rare-but-serious events.

And finally: communication and process optimisation. Dashboards that tell a story. Processes that evolve. Intelligence that prescribes, not just describes.

📚 Voilà. This is your curriculum. No, you don’t need to master every branch just yet. Like in a game, many paths exist. Pick the one which suits you best. And don't forget to practice.

It’s a craft. Learn the principles. Stay curious. Stay involved.

(And if this resonates—I'd be curious what others would add to the tree.)
